Wilshire Box Linear Planter System
1.0 GENERAL

1.3 SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data: Manufacturer's standard catalog cut sheets.
B. Samples: As required for color selection or material thickness only.
C. Shop Drawings: For custom applications, showing critical sizes and
dimensions for installation and integration with other work.
1.4 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. Inspect planters after delivery for signs of damage during transit.
B. Protect planters and brackets from damage during storage and handling.
C. Store planters and brackets indoors, or at least out of the rain, in
their original packaging. Do not stand or walk on planters.
1.5 PROJECT CONDITIONS
A. Contractor to provide adequate structural support for planter systems.
B. Protect units from damage by adjacent work.
2.0 PRODUCTS

2.2 WILSHIRE BOX LINEAR PLANTER SYSTEMS
A. Material
Planters - All parts shall be constructed of glass fiber reinforced polyester
resin.
1. Glass fibers shall be Owens Corning or equivalent, 3/4" to 1/2"
long.
2. Polyester resin shall be compounded by a reputable manufacturer.
3. Glass matting shall be Owens Corning or equal with a chrome finish.
4. Gel coating shall be Revchem of specified color
Brackets - Brackets shall be constructed of ¼" carbon plate
steel with 1/8" x 2 x 4" rectangular tube heliarc welded, finished
in front with a plate welded and ground smooth. 3/8" Mounting stud
to be 306 Stainless steel, welded to plate.
B. Construction
Planter- fabricated by either hand layup or spray laminate method, using
suitable molds to attain the desired surface finish. The finished reinforced
plastic material shall be not less than 5/32" thick and thicker in
those areas requiring additional structural strength.
Where ribs or stiffeners are to be fastened to liner sections by laminating
over premolded forms, the stiffeners or ribs shall be located and laminated
into position before the section to which they are to be attached has
passed the gel state of curing, and the finished joint shall be strong
and durable.
C. Finish:
Planter - Smooth semi-gloss or other specified texture finish; factory
finished any of Planter Technology's standard colors.
Bracket - Mounting stud to be covered and the entire bracket to be powder
coated color to match planter (unless otherwise indicated).
E. Sizes: Wilshire Box planters - 12"W x 18"H, in lengths from
24" to 120"L. Wilshire Box 2 planters - 18"W x 24"H,
in lengths from 24" to 120"L.
F. Fire retardant requirement can be met with the addition of retardant
chemicals to the resin. Additional information is available for this specification.
2.3 PLANTER ACCESSORIES
A. Field installed drainage/irrigation connection fitting. Thread-by-thread
thermoplastic drainage adapter, ½" to 4"NPT female thread
available. Contractor to locate drainage hole, drill as necessary, and
install fitting.
3.0 EXECUTION
3.1 PREPARATION
A. Prior to planter or bracket fabrication, the contractor shall verify
as-built dimensions of planter area or receptacles to ensure proper size,
fit and quantity required.
B. Unless planters have drainage fittings as in 2.3.A, drainage holes
to be located and made by contractor in the field to fit to drainage system.
3.2 INSTALLATION
A. Locate template where box is to be installed, take care that box is
mounted level to permit adequate drainage and irrigation. Mark locations
for bracket anchors.
B. Drill bracket holes, install brackets
C. Place boxes onto brackets, thread nuts onto studs using provided washers
and nuts.
D. Install planters to allow for easy removal if necessary.
