Natural Spring Controlled Watering System Planters
Free-Standing Cylindrical Planters with Built-In Irrigation

1. Provision of free-standing Natural Spring Controlled Watering System (CWS) Planters.

1. Product Data: Manufacturer's standard catalog cut sheets and planting instructions.
2. Samples: Material sample as required for color selection only.

1. Inspect Natural Spring planters after delivery for signs of damage during transit.
2. Protect planters from damage during storage and handling.
3. Store planters indoors, in their original packaging. Do not expose planters during storage to temperatures where material will exceed 150* F.

1. Protect units from damage by adjacent work.

1. Prior to project completion, provide manufacturer's planting and maintenance instructions to installing contractor to insure correct planting and maintenance of the planters.
2. After planting, Natural Spring planters' reservoirs are to be topped off as required. Do not allow reservoirs to run dry.
3. For exterior applications: After significant rainfall, planters should be drained by removing stopper from overflow drain.1

2.1 ACCEPTABLE PRODUCTS/MANUFACTURERS

1. Type: Self-contained, free-standing units with integral air- and watertight reservoir requiring no irrigation or drainage lines. Vacuum sensor system to control release of water from bottom of unit into the root zone. Water reservoir sized to maintain plants for up to 4-6 weeks, and have a recessed water inlet port. Planters will be leakproof, will not leach salts, and require no additional drainage or waterproofing for interior use.
2. Material: lightweight, durable high-impact polystyrene (HIPS).
3. Color: Molded integral color or high-quality painted finish - see manufacturer's catalog for examples of standard colors. Custom colors to be matched if required.
4. Finish: Satin finish expect those planters painted to gloss finish.
5. Sizes: See Planter Technology for exact dimensions.
6. Exterior Applications: Manufacturer to install drain assembly including stopper for control of drainage.

1. Changeable parts: Stopper, inlet discs, retainer rings, grommet, sensor tube, soil separator fabric and root confuser discs. All parts shall be included with Natural Spring planters and shall be removable and replaceable.
2. Bioguard Root Control Fabric: To prevent plant roots clogging the inlet holes, leading to premature failure of system. Bioguard is EPA-registered root control fabric coated with Trifluralin, a herbicide that prevents root cell division. Biobarrier cut into 3" squares by Planter Technology, Inc

1. Prior to Natural Spring planter fabrication, the contractor shall verify color, location and quantity of planters required.1

1. Refer closely to manufacturer's planting instructions.
2. Install level to permit correct functioning. Allow access to water inlet, drainage stopper.

1. Excess rainwater buildup can lead to "root rot" and less healthy plants.
2. Field verification of actual planter size is frequently overlooked by the contractor, and can lead to delays and additional cost if neglected.
