Drop-In Waterproof Inserts with Built-In Irrigation
1.0 GENERAL
1.1 WORK INCLUDED

1.3 SUBMITTALS
- Product Data: Manufacturer's standard catalog cut sheets and planting instructions.
- Samples: Material sample as required for size confirmation only.
1.4 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
- Inspect CWI inserts after delivery for signs of damage during transit.
- Protect inserts from damage during storage and handling.
- Store inserts indoors in their original packaging. Do not expose inserts during storage to temperatures where material will exceed 150* F.
1.5 PROJECT CONDITIONS
- Protect units from damage by adjacent work.
1.6 MAINTENANCE
- Prior to project completion, provide manufacturer's planting and maintenance instructions to installing contractor to insure correct planting and maintenance of the planters.
- After planting, CWI units reservoirs are to be topped off as required. Do not allow reservoirs to run dry.

2.2 CWI CONTAINER IRRIGATION SYSTEM INSERTS
- Type: Self-contained, waterproof units with integral air- and watertight reservoir requiring no irrigation or drainage lines. Vacuum sensor system to control release of water from bottom of unit into the root zone. Water reservoir sized to maintain plants for up to 2-4 weeks, and have a recessed water inlet port. Inserts will be leakproof, will not leach salts, and require no drainage for interior applications.
- Material: Polypropylene or linear low-density polyethylene, depending on size.
- Color: Integral black color
- Sizes: See CWI cut sheet for exact dimensions - to drop into existing planter.
- Exterior Applications: Manufacturer to provide units with exterior drainage adapter.
2.3 CWI CLASSIC INSERT ACCESSORIES (OPTIONAL)
- Bioguard Root Control Fabric: To prevent plant roots clogging the inlet holes, leading to premature failure of system. Bioguard is EPA-registered root control fabric coated with Trifluralin, a herbicide that prevents root cell division. Biobarrier cut into 3" squares by Planter Technology, Inc.
- Changeable parts: Stopper, one-sided grommet, sensor tube. All parts shall initially be included with CWI Inserts and shall be removable and replaceable.
3.0 EXECUTION
3.1 PREPARATION
- Prior to order, the contractor shall verify size, location and quantity of inserts required. 1
3.2 INSTALLATION
- Refer closely to manufacturer's planting instructions. If Bioguard
is to be used, place on bottom of liner prior to planting.
- Install level to permit correct functioning. Allow access to water
inlet.
- Ensure drainage adapter is not blocked.
- Field verification of plant size, and fit into decorative containers is frequently overlooked by the contractor, and can lead to delays and additional cost if neglected.
