The owner was looking to renovate this 60's-era classic modern design originally done by Bob Royston of RHAA. In order to keep with the original feel of the roofdeck, RHAA designed a custom planter (the large tapered unit shown at right). Planter Technology fabricated the lightweight custom fiberglass container, and provided a special version of their CWM Modular Irrigation System inside. As the concrete containers were added later, the maintenance staff added further CWM systems. The container irrigation controls the overflow of irrigation water, while still allowing the rainwater to exit. While there have been challenges due to unforseen environmental aspects of the project, the irrigation system is performing well, and the fiberglass containers are holding up as well as the concrete.
