Designer: Ignacio Ciocchini, 34th St. Partnership
The 34th St. Partnership, a business improvement district in Manhattan,
was replacing a large number of concrete planters. Despite the heavy-duty
nature of the concrete, keeping them looking good required too much
maintenance. They designed a unique fiberglass planter, but were open
to other options. Using a custom-formulated matrix finish, Planter Technology
was able to get the NYC Art Commission to approve a more durable polyethylene
material. We provided them with more than 450 planters, which have performed
beyond the partnership's expectations. The logo was set into two panels
of the planters, and hand-colored to achieve the distinctive look.
